Business Name: The Body Lab

Why did you become an Esthetician? I have always had a passion for beauty & science. Right out of college my health care career was not fulfilling the passion I had for helping others in the way that I had hoped for. Not to mention in my late 20s my body was changing I was all of a sudden noticing new lines and breakouts, new hairs and bumps! I began researching aesthetics and fell in love fast, the idea of helping others like me with our changing bodies was a dream come true. I wanted to help others understand the way their skin works and how external & internal changes can impact our skin and even though we are done “growing” our bodies are constantly going through changes, and these changes affect the health of our skin. I realized that so many people have skin conditions and changes that they feel defeated or insecure over, and I wanted to help them! To guide them on their journey to healthy clear skin and get your confidence back with the knowledge of how to take care of your skin!

What has been the most rewarding part of being an Esthetician? Seeing my client’s big smiles after a journey to clear skin. Clients who have felt as though they have tried every last option and felt hopeless but I knew I could help them and to see them so excited about skin care and their results has been the most rewarding part of my career.

Name: Tammy Wakely
Business Name: Skin + Wax Clinic

Why did you become an Esthetician? Hi, my name is Tammy, and my story is that like a lot of other Esthetician’s in our industry suffered so badly with cystic acne and scaring. I wouldn’t leave the house for days would only wear high neck sweaters it was one of the worst times in my life. A local clinic asks me to be a model for a peel and that was the life changing moment! I became obsessed! It actually worked! I made it my mission to this day to help problematic skin conditions to change skin and lives. Lots of love Tammy X

Why did you become an Esthetician? I chose to become an Esthetician because I wanted to get a deeper and better understanding of the skin and not rely on what I see on tv/social media. I grew up with acne, like many, and wish I knew how to treat it properly.

What has been the most rewarding part of being an Esthetician? The most rewarding part of being an Esthetician is receiving compliments from my clients about how much they learned and have become educated in skin care when leaving my treatment room. I’m a straight shooter with my clients about why products will and will not work for them.

Name: Tyreen Rolon

Business Name: Mirto Spa

Why did you become an Esthetician? I have always had a passion for science and beauty, and I truly want women to feel and look their best. The inspiration was my mom, she was always looking for a way to correct her skin issues and went to professionals often. I saw how happy she was because her skin got better. The satisfaction of lifting up someone’s spirit is the best thing ever! I wanted that superpower! Also, I wanted to work, so I left my bachelor’s degree to pursue esthetics. I loved it immediately, but still felt like I went on an “easy road”… Sometimes we let people’s comments become our own haunting thoughts… So, in 2012 I went back to school and finished the bachelor’s in science and then a master’s in science and little did I know that all the roads would lead to opening my own spa and being the distributor of a professional line!!! My journey was rocky, but I don’t regret a thing, all that I am today is because of a long and needed process.

What has been the most rewarding part of being an Esthetician? How people look at you and thank you for helping them gain confidence and providing the space for relaxation and wellness. I always say if you dedicate time to yourself, you will be more willing and able to deal with the tough parts of life.
