A trade show floor can turn “I’m just looking” into three hours and six shopping bags pretty quickly. When I have one day, I arrive with a plan.
Before attending, I use the event app, if available, to research vendors. If a brand offers something I’m interested in, it goes on my list. A spreadsheet, paper, or notes app all work. The best system is the one you’ll actually use.
I mark my must-visit vendors, then organize my route by row or section. I also account for how busy popular brands may be. A packed booth or detailed conversation can take more time than expected, so I keep my list realistic and leave some breathing room.
Supply vendors get a place on that list, too. Stocking up on everyday essentials may be less exciting than exploring a new device, but those purchases keep my treatment room running.
A few other details help make the day productive:
- Check inventory and set a budget. Know what you need before show specials start making suggestions.
- Bring questions. Ask about education, ongoing costs, support, and how an offering fits your practice.
- Plan around classes and appointments. Give those commitments a place in your schedule before filling every minute.
- Make quick notes. Record answers and follow-up details while the conversation is fresh.
Bonus stops come after the priorities. And I always make time to say hello to the brands that help make my business better. Networking is part of building a successful career.
For our TSG Community, a little preparation leaves more room for useful conversations and thoughtful purchases.
Before your next show, ask: What would make this day worthwhile for my business? Build your list from there.
