Areola Tattoo Latex Submission Rules

Video Submission Requirements:

  • Submit One Video:
    Each participant must submit 1 video, no longer than 3 minutes in length.
  • Upload Location:
    Upload your video to the Video Upload page on The Skin Games website.
  • Video Must Include:
    1. Fitzpatrick Scale: State which Fitzpatrick skin type you are tattooing.
    2. Materials Used: List the ink colors and needle sizes you are using.
    3. Tattoo Process: Show video footage of yourself tattooing the latex.
      • Important: This footage must be sped up to stay within the time limit and protect your technique.
    4. Final Latex Result:
      • Record a close-up straight-on view of the completed latex.
      • Then pan the camera slowly from side to side.
    5. Still Photo: Include a clear still image of the completed latex.
    • All latex submissions must use the TSG-recommended latex practice skin, available here:

      Photo Timestamp Requirement:

      • All photos must include a visible timestamp.
      • Smartphone users can download the free “Time Stamp” app from the App Store or Google Play to easily add timestamps.

      Latex Material Requirements:

    • If selected as a finalist, the exact completed latex skin entered in the competition must be brought to The Skin Games competition.

Areola Category Judging Criteria:

Judges will evaluate your latex areola based on the following:

  1. Optical Illusion:
    • How much realistic protrusion you create in the nipple mound and Montgomery glands.
  2. Texture:
    • Areola should show depth and detail through shading or color stacking.
    • Edges should be soft, airy, and naturally uneven to enhance realism.
  3. Color Contrast:
    • Use of contrast is key to achieving depth.
    • Too little = flat/unfinished. Too much = harsh/dirty appearance.
  4. Light Source:
    • Properly define your light source and use it to enhance the 3D effect of the nipple.
  5. Nipple-to-Areola Ratio:
    • Maintain realistic proportions.
    • Oversized areolas can age the client, while undersized features may appear too masculine.
  6. Trauma & Saturation:
    • Overworking the area will be judged by how saturated the skin appears.
    • Judges will inspect both sides of the practice skin.
  7. Use of Shadows:
    • Shadows must align with your chosen light source to enhance realism and structure.
  8. Creativity:
    • Show originality and attention to detail. Your unique style is encouraged.
  9. Details:
    • Include subtle features like Montgomery glands, constriction wrinkles, creases, and ducts.
  10. Overall Realism:
  • How lifelike does your areola and nipple appear at first glance?

Scar Camouflage Competition Rules

 Video and Photo Submission Guidelines

  • Each participant must submit two videos – each no longer than 3 minutes. (see requirements below)
  • Each participant must submit two photos – A still photo of the healed result and a before and after collage of treated scar. (see requirements below)
  • Upload your video to the Video Upload page on The Skin Games website.
  • Upload your photos to the Photo Upload page on The Skin Games website.

Video #1 should  include the following elements:

  1. Model Introduction
    • Show where the scar is located.
    • Share the age of the scar and the type of scar being treated.
  2. Treatment Plan
    • Clearly explain your plan for treating the scar.
    • If multiple sessions are required, document each session in your video.
  3. Skin Type
    • State the Fitzpatrick scale of the model’s skin.
  1. Products and Tools
    • Specify the inks or serums you’ll be using, including brand names.
    • Mention the needle sizes used for each part of the treatment.

Video #2 should include the following elements:

  1. Tattooing Footage
    • Include video of the tattooing process.
    • This footage must be sped up to fit the 3-minute limit and to protect your technique.
  2. Healed Results
    • Film the healed scar up close, recording straight on, then pan slowly side to side.

Photo #1 should include the following elements:

  • Include a still photo of the healed result.

Photo #2 should include the following elements:

  • Include a before-and-after photo of the scar.

Photo Requirements:

  • All photos must include a visible timestamp.

Scar Category Judging Criteria:

Judges will evaluate submissions based on the following key categories:

1. Scar Assessment & Treatment Planning (10 points)

  • Clearly identifies scar type (e.g., hypertrophic, atrophic, surgical, trauma-related).
  • Includes accurate information about the age of the scar.
  • Provides a logical, informed treatment plan, especially if multiple sessions are needed.
  • Displays understanding of skin tone matching and undertones on scarred vs. surrounding skin.

2. Color Theory & Pigment Selection (10 points)

  • Appropriate pigment/ink or serum selection for the Fitzpatrick skin type.
  • Brand and product use is relevant and professional.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how scars may absorb or reflect pigment differently.

3. Needle Selection & Technique (10 points)

  • Needle configurations are thoughtfully selected based on scar texture and location.
  • Demonstrates mastery of various techniques (e.g., pointillism, layering, feathering) to effectively blend with natural skin.
  • Avoids signs of overworking or trauma to the skin.

4. Blend & Camouflage Effectiveness (15 points)

  • Treated area blends seamlessly with the surrounding skin in tone, texture, and finish.
  • No visible lines, color blocks, or borders around the scar.
  • Camouflage appears natural and undetectable at a glance.

5. Saturation & Pigment Retention (10 points)

  • Color is evenly saturated without patchiness or signs of fading.
  • Indicates strong likelihood of long-term pigment retention.

6. Healed Results (15 points)

  • Video and photo show well-healed skin without signs of trauma.
  • Scar is visibly improved and less noticeable than in the “before” images.
  • Consistency between treatment and healed result supports artist’s control over pigment behavior.

7. Realism & Aesthetic Balance (10 points)

  • Camouflage respects the natural texture and tone variation of real skin.
  • Artistic eye is used to mimic skin nuances and patterns.
  • Area looks natural under different lighting and from multiple angles.

8. Documentation & Presentation (10 points)

  • Video includes all required elements, including before, during, and after clips.
  • Clearly narrated or labeled for easy understanding.
  • All photos are timestamped and clearly showcase progress and final results.
  • Submission is well-edited, professional, and respects the 3-minute time limit.

9. Creativity & Problem-Solving (5 points).

  • Adjustments to technique or plan are well-documented and thoughtfully executed.

10. Client-Centered Care & Safety (5 points)

  • Reflects awareness of client comfort, consent, and emotional sensitivity.
  • Displays safe practices (e.g., proper hygiene, PPE, aftercare advice).
