Treating Medically Compromised Skin with Confidence

Brooke with awards

My passion for treating medically compromised skin, particularly for those undergoing cancer treatments, began long before I received my first cancer diagnosis. I graduated from the Euro Institute of Skin Care in 2012, where I was first introduced to Becky Kuehn and her transformative program, Oncology Spa Solutions. A cancer survivor herself, Becky provided a powerful 3-day, in-person training—one that would shape my career and deepen my calling.

The most impactful part of that training was the final day: hands-on experience. Before beginning any treatment, we gathered in a “Sharing Circle,” where Oncology clients shared their stories. That moment was unforgettable. It taught me that healing touch is not just about skin—it’s about the soul. I’m honored to have the pleasure of receiving consulting services this year from Holly Brown, founder of Looking & Feeling Fab, to start a non-profit so we may care for even more individuals at Suite B Hair & Skin Lounge.

There are four essential pillars in treating medically compromised skin with confidence:

1    Training: Education is the foundation. Programs like Becky’s or Looking & Feeling Fab and resources from educators like Morag Currin—author of Oncology Esthetics: A Practitioner’s Guide—equip us with the knowledge, protocols, and modifications needed to deliver safe, compassionate care.

2    Medical Collaboration: Partnering with clients’ oncologists ensures that treatments complement ongoing medical care. I always ask clients to get clearance from their physicians before beginning services, and I send a detailed treatment summary they can share with their care team.

3    Emotional Support: Cancer treatment is as emotionally taxing as it is physical. Our treatment rooms offer a much-needed sanctuary. With intentional touch, a listening ear, and healing tools like tuning forks, essential oils, Kansa wands, and sound therapy, we create a space for comfort and reconnection.

4    Education & Resources: Empowerment is key. I educate clients on non-toxic, oncology-safe products, and makeup techniques that restore confidence. I also connect them with my network of “power partners”—from nutritionists and acupuncturists to wig specialists and support groups. Referrals to local services, like transportation or counseling, can ease burdens they shouldn’t carry alone.

Every client is unique and so should be their care. A holistic, individualized approach—addressing mind, body, spirit, and emotions—enhances their quality of life in meaningful ways.
