The Compassion Auction is a unique fundraising event that supports important causes while also providing an opportunity for participants to win valuable items at a fraction of the cost. Founded by TSG director Jennifer Rosenblum, the Compassion Auction has become a beloved tradition for our community, raising thousands of dollars each year to support charities and non-profits.
Here’s how it works:
Donated Items
Items are donated by our sponsors, judges, educators, and partners. To donate an item, simply fill out a form or reach out to us on social media, phone or email. The donor also lets us know the pricing of the items that are donated.
Bidding Process
The bidding process is quite simple and effective. We invite donors to talk about their items and start the bidding process at about 10% of the total cost. Bidding starts at that value and keeps going up in increments of at least $10. Since bidding is done through multiple channels, Facebook and Youtube, bidders are asked to bid using the following format in the comments section (Name and bid amount).
Winner Selection
For the past years, winners of the compassion category as well as other participants have always been very deserving. However, there are rules that are used to score the participants and select a winner. The participants of the compassion category are asked a series of questions that help our judges understand what the causes are about. The full list of the rules are in the compassion category page. The funds raised through all our auctions are split between our winners as decided by the judging committee.
Success Stories
The impact of the Compassion Auction can be seen in the success stories of past winners. For example, the 2022 winners of the compassion category were able to raise $5,000 for the non-profit A Bed 4 Me, and $3,000 for the non-profit Face the Fight. In addition, two winners competing for themselves and all they do in their own spas won $2,500 and $1,500 respectively.
